The War Memorial

The War Memorial is located in Brough at the crossroad of Elloughton Road, Skillings Lane and Welton Road (postcode HU15 1BA)

The memorial takes the form of a limestone cross enclosed by a limestone wall bearing three bronze plaques. It commemorates those from the local area who lost their lives in the two World Wars. Constructed by H. H. Martyn & Co., the war memorial was unveiled in 1920 during a ceremony attended by Colonel B. G. Price CB, CMG, DSO.

The Town Council approached the War Memorial Trust in November 2025 to seek advice as to whether Cleaning of the War Memorial was required. The outcome from the War Memorials Trust is as follows:

“Having reviewed the photograph, the Trust would feel that at this stage no works are needed as the condition of the war memorial is Good.”

The Town Council will resubmit a query as to whether the War Memorial should be professionally cleaned at the end of the year 2026.
